Christina & Paul: Ocean View Wedding

Whidbey Island, Washington

October 31st, 2010

Waterside weddings are not for the faint of heart. There’s always the possibility that less than perfect weather will thwart your well-laid plans. Should a little drizzle dampen your day, the spirit with which you face this unwelcome guest will set the tone for your wedding, and it will say a lot about who you are as a couple. Rise above the rain.

Christina and Paul did exactly this, and their ocean view wedding at Deception Pass State Park on Whidbey Island in Washington was rustic, fun, and undetered. The following photos, shot by Sergio Mottola, show a bunch of happy people having a great time together. Rain be damned.

By the way, Rolling Fire Pizza sent the mobile wood-fired pizza oven. Is there an easier way to make people happy than feeding them handmade pizza? I don’t think so. weddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by water

Darby & Reece: Oceanside Wedding

Santa Barbara, CA

October 16th, 2010

Happy to have a west coast wedding to share. This one took place along the ocean in Santa Barbara, CA, and was photographed by Sarah Rhoads. It’s just the right modern mix of beach, fun, and a hint of formality. Yellow details add the perfect pop of happy, from the flowers to Reece’s tie, and all the way to the lemon lollipops. Actual lemons make an appearance on the dining tables and make great DIY place cards. Each lemon has paper leaves with a guest’s name written on it, saving them a spot at the table. And finally, one of my favorite ideas, a guest tree in lieu of a guest book. Guests’ colorful fingerprints are leaves on the tree, a creative way to commemorate the day.

Laurell & Trevor: Lakeside Wedding

British Columbia, Canada

October 7th, 2010

This wedding by water is about as perfect as it gets, in my opinion. Not only are the bride and groom, Laurell and Trevor, beautiful to look at, but the location is simplicity at its best. There’s nothing overdone here. Nothing at all. The balance and restraint of the minimal decor allow the location’s beauty to shine on its own and ensure that the couple and their guests are the most important elements of the day. weddings by waterweddings by waterWeddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by waterweddings by waterThere’s some pretty natural beauty going on here, but Jamie Delaine, the Vancouver based photographer who shot this wedding, deserves credit for taking some pretty beautiful photos. I first saw this wedding on Style Me Pretty.

Jody & Maui: Beach Wedding

Kauai, Hawaii

October 2nd, 2010

When your name is Maui and you’re a surfer, would you get married anyplace other than on the beach? I hope not! Not only did Maui and his fiance, Jody, have a wedding on the sand on Kauai, but they went surfing together at dawn on the morning of their wedding. How great is that? These photos were shot by Arna Johnson and they certainly capture the aloha spirit of this beach wedding.

Jody's dress is perfect for this easy-going beach party. She had a seamstress make it for her based on a favorite Juicy Couture dress. Tip: If you can't find the perfect white dress for your wedding, but you can find a dress that's a great design, bring it to a seamstress or dressmaker and have her/him make one in a similar style using a fabric of your choice.
